We have to admit to being Pinterest addicts, checking the app several times a day for random inspiration, not just for specific research. And why not? The way it feeds your obsession is remarkable...remembering what you looked at last and suggesting similar images and, when you click on a particular image, the endless scroll of "this may be what you're looking for" can really make you spin down the rabbit hole like Alice. So when we read about Diane Keaton building a house from her Pinterest inspiration, and taking it two steps further and publishing a book about it, we knew we were not alone. And hey, if it's ok for Hollywood megastar Diane Keaton, then it's certainly ok for us. Keaton herself says of Pinterest, "I'm still in love with it; I'm still in love with Pinterest!" she exclaims happily. "To me, it's soothing, because you're also on a hunt. It leads to something else, and that leads to something else, and it just goes on and on. And that's the light you want—the light from the computer. It just makes everything look better."
The House That Pinterest Built is made up of 300 photographs of Keaton's new 8,000-square-feet home supported by photographic essays, how tos, and, of course, her Pinterest inspiration. Keaton's house, constructed of no less than 75,000 bricks for 8,000 square feet, is in the Sullivan Canyon outskirts of Brentwood. Designed over the course of three and a half years, it mixes industrial vibes with farmhouse style in a timeless, effortless way with a beautifully-reserved colour palette of black, white and grey. Such a reserved palette never feels cold though as Keaton is also the ultimate champion of sustainability, repurposing chicken coops into those fabulous kitchen lights, and sourcing reclaimed bricks and wooden beams. There is so much personality and passion in this project and we know that its design with stand the test of time.
