Gara Rock in Salcombe, Devon has a rich and interesting history - formerly the temporary Rickham Coastguard Station and Lookout, it was first made into a permanent building in 1847. Then, between 1909 and 1940, it was transformed into a luxury hotel frequented by Sir Laurence Olivier and Sir John Betjeman. It was taken back during the Second World War and used as Army headquarters and then reopened in the 1950s as a hotel again. Its current beautiful form - a blend of cosy textures, warm colours and inspiring views, was brought to life in 2016 when bought by new owners. It has been cleverly designed to have all the charms of a boutique hotel and all the luxury of a large-scale resort.
