Dulux has just announced its colour of the year for 2018 and it's 'Heart Wood', a warm dusty pink that can be easily used as a main or accent colour. Described as 'a warm neutral, with a hint of heather' it sits between a smoky taupe and a dusky mauve.
Dulux expands on this:
'The colour for 2018 is inspired by the beautifully warm wooden materials we see being used in all kinds of interior decorating and architecture. A variety of woods are growing in popularity, but we see a tendency towards warmer, light and dark shades of red, alongside violet and pinkish woods. The warmth of wood reflects the comfort that we need in these uncertain times – this material is an essential element for creating the welcoming environments we desire.'
Heart Wood and a broader set of colour palettes have been separated into four categories (the Heartwood Home, the Inviting Home, the Comforting Home and the Playful Home) under the broader theme, 'A Welcome Home', to create truly relaxing home sanctuaries...respites from the challenging world around us.
The Heartwood Home
Heart Wood mixed with earthy tones, inky blue and charcoal for warmth and elegance.
The Inviting Home
Combine Heart Wood with cool blues and neutrals for calming, restorative rooms.
The Comforting Home
Create comfort in an instant by teaming Heart Wood with cocoa, clay and blush pink.
The Playful Home
Add an energising pop of colour by pairing Heart Wood with lively yellows and zesty greens.
In summary, Rebecca Williamson, Senior Colour and Design Expert, added:
“Dulux Trade’s colour of the year for 2018, Heart Wood, is incredibly versatile, and connects beautifully with the accompanying trend palettes for the year ahead. Providing the comfort and reassurance we’re all seeking, it’s the perfect antidote to the mood of the moment – channelling a real sense of calm and warmth during such times of uncertainty. We can’t wait to see spaces across the globe transformed into true sanctuaries.”
