Salt and pepper
450g potatoes, peeled and diced large
225g carrots, peeled and diced large
5 cloves garlic, smashed and peeled, divided
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, chopped
450g lean ground beef
1 medium onion, diced small
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Preheat oven to 220 C / 450 F. In a pot of salted water bring potatoes, carrots, and 3 cloves of garlic to a boil. Reduce to a rapid simmer; cook until vegetables are tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and return to pot. Using a masher, mash vegetables until mostly smooth; stir in 3 tablespoons of butter. Season with salt and pepper. Finely chop remaining 2 cloves of garlic; set aside.
